Sails for Sustenance
Michael Cacaise (left) and Mike Laas (right)
...continues to collect sails below decks~ Thanks for all your support!!!
12/14/11
This week I received an update from Michael Cacaise, co-founder of the successful Sails for Sustenance sail donation program. CGSC has hosted their blue sail collection box on the ground floor for the past year. Thanks to all of you who donated old sails to the program, as the Haitian Fishermen will certainly have a bountiful Christmas this year.
Michael's email: "Last week we dropped off 63 sails at the shipping facility. The sails are now bound for Haiti and will soon be flying aboard fishing boats in Abricots and Ile-a-Vache. Many of the sails were donated by CGSC members. View a photo of part of the shipment here: http://on.fb.me/sVrwNc"
"This past weekend Mike Laas and I rolled some more sails for the next shipment. Short video of this weekend's activities here: http://youtu.be/YgB5-H5q5pA ...You can follow our updates on Facebook by "liking" our page, and on twitter (@sails4sust).
The CGSC is proud to be associated with the "Sails for Sustenance" program that two former UM Sailing Team members, now young entrepreneurs, Michael Carcaise and Michael Laas, brought to the CGSC as a charitable cause to outfit Haitian fishermen with real sails. Dig out your attic, your garage or whatever storage bin where your old sails are sitting and donate them to a very good cause. The drop-off will be on-site at the CGSC on Saturday, May 29th and Sunday, May 30 of the 2 day regatta.
To learn how to prepare your sails, please view their invitation letter here.
