Information to know what’s next after you receive your Keelboat Certification!
- Please send us a copy of your certification so that you are added to the Keelboat user list (dockmaster@cgsc.org; adultsailing@cgsc.org)
- You must complete a checkout with an instructor on our boat.
- To make reservations please use both emails above. We are working on a better system but as of now we will keep this process.
For students whose goal is to join the Adopt a Boat Cruising Program your steps would be to:
Send your approval of your Basic Cruising Certification (at a minimum– this is for day sail) – If you have a Bareboat Certification you may use overnight.
- You must use the Ensigns 6 times without an instructor (please note that you may not single hand)
- First students need to get some experience on the Ensigns keelboats. We want to see you’ve gone out at least 1/2 dozen times. We want to see you are good to properly rig and de rig the boats, reef, leave and come back off of mooring and docking successfully, replenish/clean boat after EVERY use.
- Know all your points of sail, all 4 maneuvers, Heave-to, Crew over board, knots etc.
- Before moving on to the Cruising Vessels, You are required to complete the boating safety online certification this is free, takes a few hours. https://www.boatus.org/florida
- Once completed you will send your certification number as well as proof of Cruising Certifications to Instructor Marika at mdenie01@gmail.com
- You will sign up with her directly to complete a boat/ site check-out which is required Franela and Flora. W want to see you are good to properly rig and de rig the boats, reef, leave and come back off of mooring and dock, replenish/clean boat after EVERY use. Know all your points of sail, all 4 maneuvers, Heave-to, Crew over board, knots etc.
Please review the check out information to know for both boats (links below) to find out in more detail what will be reviewed and must pass in order to be added to the Cruising Programs. When you have completed your check out Marika will put you in contact with the Cruising Fleet Captain who will sign you up for the program.
Adopt a Boat – Cruising Program $214.50 per month
All program users to have a minimum of a basic cruising certification in order to sign up for the group. If you have the proper certifications you are required to take out one of our club Ensigns 6 times. Once done you will have to complete two different check-outs (one for each boat) by an instructor which you will have to go through the quick versions of the on water drills as well as sailing on and off the mooring and docking. Once approved you may join the group for $214.50 per month. The users can make reservations up to 3 times a month (not consecutively).

-Bareboat Cruising Certification – Must have to take the Boat Overnight

Adopt a Boat – Flying Scot Program $104.50 per month
You would either need to complete a check out or take a few lessons in order to join this group. We offer adult lessons for beginners and advance sailors. Once approved by the fleet captain you will be added to the group and can use the boats whenever available. Each boat is partnered up with 3-4 people. This fleet is extremely active with a racing series as well as Saturday racing for $60 and Wednesday night racing free of charge.

Adopt a Boat- Sunfish & Laser
You can join this program for $66 per month. You would just need complete a check out with the fleet captain to make sure you know how to sail. We do have a sunfish course for adults but do not have one for the lasers should you need practice.
Once approved by the fleet captain you can sign up for the program and have access to the boats whenever they are not in use by a club event or class.

Member Boat Use –Ensign Program
This program is just called member boat usage and the boats are reserved on an hourly basis.
You must have a minimum of the basic keelboat certification in order to use one of the vessels . Once you have the certifications you will have to complete a check out with the instructor and once approved Regular Members may use the boats for $33 per hour. All other Membership Classes the hourly rate is $38.50 per hour.

Member Boat Use Kayaks
You will just need to come to the Dock office to check out the kayaks once you fill out a float plan and usage form. There are no reservations as the kayaks are first come, first serve. Regular Member hourly rate of $15 per kayak. All other Membership Classes the hourly rate is $20 per kayak.
